General Pierre G. T. Beauregard - This is a war-field hand-written letter by Gen. Beauregard instructing from Reedy Fork, NC that his soldiers hide ammunitions from the approaching Yankee troops...it reads:
Colonel Brent will order Captain Ferry to remove weapons....
Supplies will be libel to destruction if not removed.....
Signed by General Beauregard
The piece also includes a hand-written letter from Col. Brent to Capt. Ferry wherein he instructs Ferry to do what Gen. Beauregard suggests. Most importantly, dated April 1865, less than 2 weeks later, General Lee surrendered at Appomattox. Exactly 2 weeks later, President Lincoln was assassinated. And the indications of Gen. Beauregard's note point to the South not believing the war would be over any time soon. From the date of his letter, the Civil War was over 10 days later.
